VEIL is a temporary installation bringing together a diverse collection of patterns and colors to activate the corner of 1 Main Street, Brooklyn, NY. The patterns are alternately figurative and geometric in a vivid zig zag that is scaled to the masonry divisions that frame each window bay. VEIL manipulates pattern density and opacity to produce large scale banding that regulates light from the exterior during the day and the interior at night.
The patterns are produced by laser cut stencils that are painted (with an acrylic spray gun) onto the exterior glass of the first floor windows. Sarah Strauss collaborated with Karin Tehve to concept and design VEIL. For the installation, they were helped by a dozen Pratt Interior Design students. The mural spans 120 feet x 10 feet on the glass corner windows adjacent to Brooklyn Bridge Park.
